Does EFT tapping really work?

Over the past few months, I have incorporated this beautiful technique into my life and figured it needed its own post as I have seen many benefits from using it regularly.

What is EFT tapping?

It stands for emotional freedom technique. I found out about tapping when I started following Stephanie Flockhart and downloaded her Mode the Method program, which includes guided mediations, gua sha tutorials, and EFT tapping practices. Stephanie focuses on these simple rituals which are designed to rewire your subconscious mind to truly love yourself, which of course will help you glow and shine from the outside. Here is a good summary of EFT tapping by Heathline.

So how does EFT work?

Tapping relies on the belief that our body’s energy travels along certain pathways. There are points along these pathways that can be stimulated to improve the flow of energy. Points can be stimulated by needles (acupuncture) or by applying pressure (acupressure). EFT tapping obviously relies on acupressure since it is just your touch doing the work. Studies have shown that this can be very helpful in stimulating the central nervous system, releasing helpful chemicals.

First, you need to think about what you want to work on and rank it on a scale of 0-10. 0 would be it is not really bothering you at all, and 10 would be you are in so much pain and distress about this thing, that it is hard to even think straight. Next, you’ll speak your “set up statement” which is what you would like to focus on for that session. This is identifying the issue and includes a statement of self-acceptance. You will be tapping on the karate chop point during the set up statement. After this, you will begin the tapping sequence. I follow a certain script by using Stephanie’s program. See below for the tapping points. After several rounds of tapping, you will again rank on how you are feeling on that 0-10 scale.

What are the points?

* Side of the hand ~ karate chop point

*Above your eyebrows ~ start of eyebrow third eye

*Side of the eye

*Under the eye

*Under the nose ~ right above mouth

*On chin ~ below mouth

*Collarbone ~ just below the hard ridge of collarbone

*Under the armpit ~ where your bra strap would be

*Top of the head ~ very center

Please note; you can use one hand or both hands while tapping. I sometimes use both hands to feel balance on either side of my face, and other times I just use one hand if that feels right. There is really no correct way to do it~ just whatever feels comfortable and make sure you follow the order of the points.

What you are doing here is reprogramming your mind and instilling new, positive beliefs of self-love, self-acceptance and confidence. Having this tool in my tool belt while dealing with issues with my skin has been so incredible.

You can do this in the morning, night, or really whenever you feel very overwhelmed an want to work through the feeling. Do note that even if your ranking does not move significantly after tapping, or even gets worse/more intense, that is okay! It just means you are working through your own feelings and must continue tapping and stay consistent. It really is fantastic and so powerful. If you’d like a free way to calm down your nervous system, show yourself love, and get in touch with who you are, I can’t recommend this enough. Give it a shot. There are plenty of free videos on Youtube about this to get started- I like this one. I hope this is helpful for you and you give it a shot.
